For almost a week, Aubrey Huff has been able to listen to sales pitches from other teams.

And a return to San Francisco remains his first choice.

“Aubrey continues to hope that he can do a deal with the Giants,” his agent, Ed Hayes, said in an email to FOXSports.com on Saturday morning.

Huff played first base for the champion Giants throughout the postseason and started 97 games there during the regular season. But he also made plenty of starts in the corner outfield spots – 24 in left, 33 in right.

Though it’s not clear which teams have contacted Huff, the following contenders could look to upgrade at first base: the Rays, Red Sox, Blue Jays, White Sox, Rangers and Athletics.

The Phillies have signed utility man Pete Orr to a minor-league contract, a source told FOXSports.com.

Orr is a career .260 hitter in the big leagues. He played 347 games in the majors between Atlanta and Washington, from 2005 through 2009.

He spent this season at Class AAA Syracuse in the Washington organization, batting .264 with 12 home runs and 45 RBIs in 137 games. He played six positions – second base, third base, shortstop and all the outfield spots.

Some have wondered if the Detroit Tigers would be an option for Derek Jeter, in the unlikely event that his negotiations with the New York Yankees break down. After all, he is a Michigan native.

But it’s doubtful that the Tigers will be in the market for a shortstop by the time Jeter files for free agency.

Instead, the Tigers are expected to reach an agreement with incumbent shortstop Jhonny Peralta, perhaps even before the free agency period begins.

Peralta’s contract includes a club option for next year worth $7.25 million. The Tigers are expected to decline that option and instead renegotiate a two-year deal. The total value of the contract will probably be a little less than the $11.5 million that third baseman Brandon Inge received in his two-year extension.

Peralta’s range at shortstop isn’t what it was, but he performed capably on defense after arriving in a July trade with the Cleveland Indians. The Tigers are willing to accept something less than Gold Glove-caliber defense at shortstop in exchange for Peralta’s run production; he totaled 81 RBIs in 148 games last year.

Lloyd McClendon will interview for the Mariners’ managerial opening this week, major-league sources confirmed to FOXSports.com.

This is believed to be McClendon’s first managerial interview since he was dismissed as manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2005. That is surprising, given his credentials and the performance of Tigers hitters during his time as the Detroit batting coach.

McClendon had a .430 winning percentage over five seasons in Pittsburgh, but his tenure was a relative success when compared to the records of his successors. The Pirates won 70-plus games only three times over the past 11 years; McClendon was the manager in each of those seasons.

McClendon’s first season as the Detroit batting coach was 2007, when Magglio Ordonez, Placido Polanco and Curtis Granderson enjoyed career years. This season, he worked with potential MVP (Miguel Cabrera) and Rookie of the Year (Austin Jackson) award winners.

The 51-year-old’s hitting background could help the Mariners, who had a historically poor offense in 2010. Players respect McClendon, a former major-league outfielder, and his even-tempered demeanor would play well in a clubhouse that disintegrated toward the end of this season.
