Speedy Boston Red Sox Prospect Breaks Franchise Record on Sunday
USA TODAY Sports

Congratulations are in order for Boston Red Sox infield prospect David Hamilton, who set a new Triple-A franchise record on Sunday by stealing his 52nd base of the year.

The 25-year-old speedster was acquired by the Red Sox heading into the 2022 season in the trade that sent Hunter Renfroe to the Milwaukee Brewers.

He has appeared in 15 games at the big league level this year, hitting .121 but has posted a .246 average across 90 games at Triple-A.

Hamilton is the 19th-ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization, per MLB.com.

Here's a portion of his MLB.com prospect profile:

Hamilton's plus-plus speed is unquestionably his best asset, and he excels as a base stealer, succeeding on 88 percent of his attempts in his first two pro seasons. His quickness also gives him range as a middle infielder, though his fringy arm strength restricts his ability to make some of the more difficult plays at shortstop. He's better suited for second base, where he spent the majority of his time in 2022, but his hands and instincts are average at best, and some evaluators like him more as a potential center fielder.

Hamilton's offensive focus should be getting on base to wreak havoc with his speed, yet instead he tries to turn on and launch balls far too often. A left-handed hitter, he draws a decent amount of walks but strikes out too much for a player with his quickness and below-average strength.

At the major league level, the Red Sox will start a new series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday afternoon.
