Former NFL TE Kyle Rudolph gets NASCAR pit crew assignment from Bubba Wallace

In his retirement from the NFL, Kyle Rudolph has done a lot. Now, his Alltroo company is sponsoring Bubba Wallace at North Wilkesboro. So, what would Rudolph’s pit crew position be if he were in NASCAR?

In recent years, NASCAR teams have turned to former professional and college athletes to fill the roles on their pit crews. It is a part of the sport that has turned into a display of explosive athleticism at every position.

There are some limits to what certain guys can do, even for the two-time Pro Bowler.

Ahead of the North Wilkesboro All-Star Race, both Kyle Rudolph and Bubba Wallace went on the Gojo and Golic show. Rudolph knows where he’d fit in at 6’6″ and 250lb.

“I’ve been told that if I’m on a pit crew that I’m a jackman, you know, being a big tight end,” Rudolph said on the show. “I’ve been told that that’s my position so I’ll say the jackman.”

When pressed, Bubba had to say where he’d trust Rudolph on the crew if he wasn’t allowed to pick jackman. Well, that makes it easy, there are two jobs for big strong people in NASCAR.

“Well, there’s another position that he can easily do, he can be the gasman, for sure. He can be the gasman,” Wallace explained. “A guy his size, he’s either jackman or gasman. Man, it would be a detriment for him to be a tire changer for us just because of his size. I know he’s quick, I’m sure he can get around the car fast but size matters, right? So, it’s one of those things that you have to just embrace, you’re big you gotta either be a jackman or a gasman that’s it. The only two you can do.”

Everyone had a little laugh about it. Rudolph and Alltroo are ready to see their car on the track and Bubba Wallace is ready to deliver a great result. Wallace was P2 in last year’s All-Star Race.

Bubba Wallace will have to earn it the hard way

Without a win on his record last year, Bubba Wallace is going to have to make the All-Star Race the hard way. Race. Wallace will have to either be voted in by fans or will have to race his way to the main event himself.

Back in 2019, Wallace won a stage of the All-Star Open and made his way to the main event where he finished P5 overall. That was back at Charlotte, though. Given how well Wallace performed on the Wilkesboro track last season, I think he has a solid chance of making it to the big race. Anything can happen.

Then again, it wouldn’t be shocking to see him lose out. Drivers like Josh Berry who made their living on short tracks will be hard to compete with. Only a select few get to be in the main event and race for $1,000,000.

Good news, Alltroo will see lots of track time. If Bubba Wallace does make it to the main event they will definitely have a lot of opportunity to be on TV and get their message out. Who are your favorites for the All-Star Race this weekend?
