Jason McCourty named 'favorite' to join NFL Network's 'Good Morning Football'

It was learned earlier on Friday that veteran defensive back Jason McCourty had decided to retire as an active NFL player after 13 seasons. 

McCourty may have made that call knowing he already has a gig waiting for him. 

Late Friday afternoon, Ryan Glasspiegel and Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reported that McCourty has emerged as the top candidate to replace Nate Burleson on the popular NFL Network "Good Morning Football" show. Burleson left the program last summer to join "CBS This Morning," and NFL Network never named a full-time replacement and has instead utilized an assortment of fill-in options. 

"McCourty, who played at Rutgers and lives in New Jersey (where the show is filmed), was impressive at the NFL’s recent broadcasting bootcamp and has appeared on the program a number of times this summer," Glasspiegel and Marchand explained for the piece. 

Jamie Erdahl was recently named the new "Good Morning Football" host. She will work alongside Peter Schrager and Kyle Brandt, not to mention McCourty if he lands the role. 

McCourty retired as a one-time Super Bowl champion who featured for the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins during his career.
