AC Milan have registered an interest in signing Athletic Club star Oihan Sancet but they face strong competition and must pay a high asking price, a report claims.

The Milan management are evaluating the moves ahead of the winter transfer window and the following summer based on the holes that exist in the squad at present, plus the ones that might emerge.

There are doubts about the attack and defence, but the rumours surrounding the potential sale of Rade Krunic mean that it would be wise to look into potential targets in that region too.

According to SpazioMilan, Oihan Sancet – who plays as a playmaker and a box-to-box midfielder for Athletic Bilbao – is on Milan’s list of targets. However, thanks to his performances since the beginning of the season, the competition for the Spanish player is very high.

Sancet’s release clause set at €80m and the three goals he has in the first 11 games has also caught the attention of Arsenal. There are numerous clubs who are scouting him as well, while he has a contract with Bilbao until 2032.

This could be bad news for the Rossoneri since in the Premier League teams are usually able to pay higher prices, but moving ahead of time could well be the key.
